DIY Personalized Pots
Posted by April on Apr 23, 2018
It's starting to finally feel like spring around here so we're making personalized flower pots with stickers! We spruced up our office with some house plants from Home Depot but this DIY would also make an amazing Mother's Day gift!
What you need:
Unglazed Terra Cotta Pots with Saucers
White Acrylic Paint
Assorted Colors Acrylic Paint (we mixed brands but really loved Martha's neon pink)
Stickers of your favorite faces (we recommend a sheet per pot)
Pencil
Paintbrushes / Sponge brushes (choose your weapon)
Small Houseplants that fit in the pots*
*Most small houseplants (8" pots and smaller) that you can find at Home Depot should not be repotted. They are baby plants with new and weak roots systems so it's best to keep them inside their original pots inside the terra cotta pots until they're bigger. This is a helpful tip we received from one of the houseplant growers! ;)
Step 1
We painted all the pots white so the colors would be sure to pop. This took a couple coats to achieve. Be sure to allow each layer to dry before applying the next. *We used a sponge brush but feel free to use whichever you're comfortable with.
Step 2
We carefully drew lines on the pots where our color blocks would be going. Try using a piece of paper as a guide for a straighter line.
Step 3
Paint in the color blocks with your color of choice. Be sure to let each layer fully dry. Tip: If you happen to go over the line like we did, use a damp paper towel and it should rub right off! Phew!
Step 4
Once the paint has fully dried, it's time to sticker these babies up and place the plants inside!
